Nha Trang Weather in November: Short Trips, Island Days and When to Reschedule

Some November rain in Nha Trang starts around midnight and is still falling at lunch the next day. The bay turns gray, whitecaps run along the Tran Phu seawall, and the tour boats stay tied up in port. On a week-long trip, that means a couple of slow days. On a three-day trip with the islands booked, it can take the part you were most looking forward to.

November is the wettest month of the year, but between the spells there are showery or dry days. So before you book, ask yourself one question: if heavy rain lands on your island day, can you move it? If your dates are still open, it is worth checking the months that are easier for the beach first.

How Nha Trang weather in November differs from October #

The rain comes in spells. Days with 50 mm or more, fewer than two in an average year, account for close to half of the month's rain. In ten years of data there were five runs of four heavy-rain days in a row. A three-day trip can fit entirely inside a spell like that; a trip of five or six days will probably get a break.

Fewer dry mornings. In October, about two mornings in three stay almost dry. In November it is closer to one in two. Rain is spread fairly evenly around the clock, so the October trick of going out early and getting back before the afternoon rain works less often.

Stronger wind, more boat delays. The wind blows from the north or northeast nearly every day, with stronger gusts than October at every hour. It is usually lightest at dawn, builds from about 9 a.m. and peaks around 1-2 p.m. Rain alone does not always stop the boats; wind and waves often do.

Early or late November: not much difference

The two halves of the month get almost the same rain. The second half gets steadier northeast wind; the first half is a touch warmer. Picking early or late November will not let you lock in a boat day ahead of time.

Why Nha Trang is wet when Saigon is drying out

Travelers coming up from the south are often surprised. Saigon and the Mekong Delta get their rain in summer, and this year that season is expected to wrap up by mid to late October. Nha Trang's wettest stretch comes later, with the northeast monsoon. If you are pairing Saigon or Phu Quoc with Nha Trang, expect the beach leg to be the wettest.

Three or four days: leave room to move things #

The shorter the trip, the more it helps to sort activities into two lists before you go: things that need a calm sea (island trips, swimming, snorkeling) and things that work in the rain (mud baths, museums, food, markets). Keep the first list off any fixed date, and use the second to fill gaps whenever plans change.

On a four-day trip, the first day usually loses half its time to travel and check-in, and the last afternoon should stay free for the ride to Cam Ranh airport, about 35 km south of town. That leaves two days in the middle. Do not fix the island day from home. Hold both days open and pick one the evening before, once the 24-hour forecast is clear.

On a three-day trip, you really have one full day in the middle, and if heavy rain lands on it there is no makeup day. If the islands are the main reason for going, consider adding a day or choosing another month. If not, treat the boat trip as a bonus.

If one date cannot move, such as a prepaid dive trip, a beach photo shoot or a group booking, November is the hardest month of the year to hold it. Ask which day it moves to if the boats cannot sail, and whether there is a fee, before you commit.

If the forecast shows a spell covering the whole trip three to five days out, and your tickets allow it, shifting by a few days usually beats flying in to sit in your room. If you cannot change the tickets, drop the islands from the plan rather than putting down a deposit and hoping.

If you want a night at an island resort, put it in the middle of the trip, not at the end. Getting on and off the island depends on the sea, and nobody wants to wait for it to calm down on the morning of a flight.

Signs it is time to move your island day #

Whether the boats run is where this month's weather hits an itinerary hardest. Tourist boats only sail when the authorities allow it; on days when wind and waves pass the limit, or a storm or depression is near, operators wait like everyone else. In late November 2025, as Typhoon Koto approached, Khanh Hoa banned all boats from going to sea from 7 a.m. on November 28.

The evening before, if you see any of the following, call your operator about a new date:

• Forecast rain of 20 mm or more for the day, or several days in a row above 30-50 mm. Go by the millimeters; in November the app draws rain clouds on nearly every day.
• A forecast of strong gusts, or any high-wave warning covering the sea off Khanh Hoa.
• A storm, heavy-rain, flash-flood or landslide warning that mentions Khanh Hoa from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (its site has an English version).
• Poor wave and wind readings on the is the sea nice today tool, or a red flag already up on the main beach in the morning.

On a borderline day, choose island hopping in Nha Trang on a short route that is back in port before the afternoon wind peaks, and bring seasickness tablets if you need them. Save coral snorkeling for another trip; after each rainy spell the bay tends to turn murky.

VinWonders Nha Trang on Hon Tre island is reached by cable car, which can pause in strong wind, as it did for an extended stretch from November 28, 2024. Tickets cannot be moved to another date, so on a short trip, buy them only once the forecast for that day is clear.

Book flights, rooms and tours you can change #

Nha Trang weather in November varies a lot from year to year: about 136 mm of rain in 2015, 774 mm in 2021. Booking two months ahead tells you nothing about your week. What you can control is how easily each booking can be changed or canceled.

The cheapest airfares often cannot be changed, or the change fee plus the fare difference adds up quickly, so compare the date-change rules before you buy. For train and bus tickets, ask about change and refund fees at purchase. If you are still weighing flying, the train or the bus, factor in how much each one depends on mountain roads and the rail line this month.

For hotels, pick a rate with free cancellation close to arrival, and pay at the property if you can. November brings few domestic tourists and central hotels are rarely full, so there is little reason to lock in a nonrefundable rate early. Staying near Tran Phu also helps when plans change midtrip, since there is plenty to do without calling a car.

Book island tours close to the date with a small deposit. The questions that matter are how much comes back when boats stay in port, and how quickly; ask by chat so you have the answer in writing. Booking through your hotel? Ask whether they can switch you to a backup day at no charge.

For this year, Vietnam's weather service expects fewer storms than usual and below-average rain in central Vietnam late in the year. Even so, Khanh Hoa's disaster plan still allows for one or two storms or depressions affecting the province. A seasonal outlook cannot tell you about your week, so it is no reason to buy nonrefundable tickets.

Coming overland from Da Lat #

Khanh Le Pass on National Route 27C, the main road between Da Lat and Nha Trang, is the stretch to watch this month. On November 16, 2025, a landslide at Km 45 buried a passenger bus, killing six people, and the pass then stayed closed for more than a month. As of late September 2026, repairs are still under way and cars are banned from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

If you plan to take this road, check the latest traffic notices, travel only in daylight, and postpone if there is a heavy-rain or landslide warning. Trains can be affected too: the November 2025 floods cut the North-South railway in Dak Lak province for more than nine days. Traveling by train or bus, leave half a day of slack before anything you cannot miss.

When the rain lasts several days: what to do first #

One wet afternoon is easy to fill with a café. A two- or three-day spell, which is common this month, calls for some order: do what is close to your hotel first and save anything farther away for when the rain eases.

On the heaviest day, or when a flood warning is out, stay close to base. Eat near your hotel, and if you want to go out, the oceanography museum at Cau Da is a dry option not far from the center, with fish tanks for kids to look at. Ask the front desk before taking a car far from the center; they usually know which streets are flooding.

When the rain lets up for a few hours, head to the north side of town: the Po Nagar Cham Towers first, then a mud bath a short ride away. It is a good use for a canceled island day. The stone steps get slippery after rain, so wear shoes with grip. If it stays dry, add a few more things to do in Nha Trang nearby.

After a few rough days the boats stay ashore, fresh seafood thins out and prices creep up; ask the price per kilo before ordering. When the rain settles in, pick local dishes from places within walking distance rather than calling a car across town.

In the evening, if the rain eases, the Nha Trang night market by 2 Thang 4 Square is a short walk from Tran Phu. On wet nights many stalls pack up early, so go before 9 p.m.

What to pack for a week of rain #

Nha Trang weather in November is not cold: about 28°C (82°F) by day and 23-24°C (74°F) at night. Average humidity of 86% means laundry dries slowly indoors, so pack for wet rather than for sun.

• A proper two-piece rain suit, not a thin plastic poncho, sturdy enough for a motorbike taxi ride through a downpour.
• A few zip bags or a dry pouch to keep your phone and documents dry between showers.
• Leave the canvas sneakers at home; plastic sandals or strap sandals will do for the whole trip.
• A light hooded jacket; the northeast wind blows most of the month and evenings can be gusty.
• A spare set or two of light clothes.
• A charged power bank, plus phone numbers for your airline, hotel and tour operator saved offline, in case you need to rebook during a power cut or with weak signal.
• Sunscreen and a hat for the bright spells between rainy ones.

November vs October and December #

If your dates can move by a few weeks, this table compares the last three months of the year. All three fall in the rainy season, but they differ most on the very wet days.

October has more reliable dry mornings and very few days above 50 mm. December is drier, with about half as many very wet days as November, but the northeast wind is at its strongest of the year and the air is cooler. In ten years of data, all six days with more than 100 mm of rain in October-December fell in November.

If your trip is short and the sea is the main reason for it, late October is usually easier to plan. December brings less rain but bigger waves, so it suits a trip built around the town and its food. If you can stay five days or more, book flexibly and do not stake everything on one date, November is still worth considering, especially if you prefer quiet streets.

Flood safety: what to know before you go #

In recent years, Nha Trang weather in November has brought some serious events. Typhoon Damrey made landfall in Khanh Hoa on the morning of November 4, 2017. In mid-November 2025, four rounds of rain pushed floods past historic levels; overnight on November 19-20, water rose very fast in the western part of the city and many neighborhoods flooded deeply.

Not every year is like that. But once a flood warning is out, do not ride or drive through a flooded road, however shallow it looks.

If you do swim, pick a buoyed zone with lifeguards on duty and go by the beach flags. On big-wave days, keep back from the seawall: in late November 2025 a wave estimated at about 5 meters washed over onto Pham Van Dong Street.

After the late-2025 floods, the beach was cleared of debris within a few days and island tours restarted after safety checks. Still, if your dates fall in a week with an active flood warning, it is worth thinking about postponing.

Grid-based data like this softens very local downpours, and the series stops short of November 2025, when some areas in the region recorded 400-900 mm of rain in a single week.
