How to Get to Nha Trang by Plane, Train, Bus or Car, From Wherever You Start

Nha Trang has three main ways in, and they are in very different places. Cam Ranh International Airport is well south of the city, next to Bai Dai beach. The train station is right in town, a 1930s building with a red tile roof and areca palms out front. Long-distance buses stop at two terminals on opposite edges of the city.

So choosing how to get to Nha Trang also means choosing your last leg. Land at the airport and you still have about 35 km of coast road ahead. Step off the train and a short taxi ride gets you to the Tran Phu beachfront. Arrive at the southern bus terminal and you'll need another ride into town.

How to get to Nha Trang, depending on where you start #

If you just want to compare how to get to Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, where most visitors start, the table puts the four options side by side. Flight times are time in the air and don't include the ride in from the airport. Train times come from the Vietnam Railways timetable for September 2026.

From Ho Chi Minh City

Saigon has all four options. The flight is only about an hour, but once you add the trip out to Tan Son Nhat, check-in and the drive from Cam Ranh into town, door to door takes a lot longer than the time in the air.

With four days or more, the overnight SNT2 train, which leaves Saigon at 9:45 pm and arrives at 5:40 am, saves you a hotel night. If you're a group that wants to stop in Mui Ne or Phan Rang, driving the expressway lets you set your own schedule. Buses run day and night and are usually the cheapest way to go.

From Hanoi

On a trip of four or five days, fly. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet both run nonstop Hanoi - Cam Ranh flights, so a morning departure can have you at the beach by lunchtime. The Reunification Express takes more than a full day, which only makes sense if you want to stop in Hue or Da Nang on the way.

Higher fuel costs led some airlines to cut flights to Cam Ranh this spring, and Vietnam Airlines suspended its Hai Phong - Cam Ranh route on April 1, 2026. Check which departure times are still available before you lock in your dates.

From Hoi An, Da Nang or Hue

Hoi An has no airport or main-line station, so every option starts with a ride to Da Nang. From there, Vietnam Airlines flies nonstop to Cam Ranh. If you're not in a hurry, the train takes about 9 to 10.5 hours, and two departures run overnight: the SE7 leaves Da Nang at 10:30 pm and arrives at 8:40 am, and the SE5 leaves at 12:36 am and arrives at 10:17 am.

From Hue, you can board the same trains a few hours earlier; the line follows the coast below the Hai Van Pass before reaching Da Nang. Overnight sleeper buses also run from Da Nang and Hoi An. If you take one, plan an easy first morning.

From Da Lat

To get from Da Lat down to Nha Trang, you can take a bus or a limousine van, or drive. There is no train between the two cities. The shortest route is National Route 27C over the Khanh Le Pass, about 3.5 to 4 hours, with long views down into forested valleys.

The pass is prone to landslides in the rainy season. On the night of November 16, 2025, a rockfall crushed a passenger bus and killed six people. For now, the stretch from Km63 to Km65+543 is closed to all vehicles from 6 pm to 5 am.

October and November are the peak of Nha Trang's rainy season. If your trip falls in those months, read up on Nha Trang weather in October or November and leave a spare day for the mountain road.

From Buon Ma Thuot

Buon Ma Thuot is close to 200 km from Nha Trang on National Route 26, over the Phuong Hoang Pass, and most people make the trip by bus or car. A landslide blocked the pass in November 2025, so check road news before you set off in the rainy season.

The first 22 km of a new Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot expressway opened on May 28, 2026, and the full route is due by the end of 2026. When you book a bus, ask which road it takes so you can estimate your arrival time.

From Mui Ne, Phan Thiet or Phan Rang

Phan Thiet and Mui Ne are now linked to Nha Trang by expressway the whole way, through the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao and Nha Trang - Cam Lam sections. Buses and limousine vans are the usual choice, and the same companies run the other way, from Nha Trang to Mui Ne.

If you'd rather take the train, northbound Reunification Express trains stop at Binh Thuan station, the main-line station for the Phan Thiet area, and take about four hours to Nha Trang. From Thap Cham station in Phan Rang, it's only about 1 hour 50 minutes.

From Phu Quoc

Sun PhuQuoc Airways has flown Phu Quoc - Cam Ranh four times a week since March 15, 2026, which is handy if you want to pair two beach towns in one trip. If the days don't fit your plans, connect through Ho Chi Minh City.

From Korea, Russia and elsewhere

Korean and Vietnamese airlines fly nonstop to Cam Ranh from Seoul (Incheon), Busan, Cheongju and Daegu. There are also routes from Almaty, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, where Vietjet has flown four times a week since June 1, 2026.

From Russia, Vietjet launched a nonstop Moscow (Sheremetyevo) - Cam Ranh route on September 23, 2026, three times a week. The first flight left at 12:25 am Moscow time and landed at 3:20 pm local time, roughly 11 hours in the air. Russian carriers fly the route too. International flights use Terminal 2; domestic flights use Terminal 1.

Flying in: booking and getting from Cam Ranh into town #

Domestic fares rise and fall with the season and with how early you book. As rough benchmarks, summer 2026 round trips between Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang ran about VND1.8 million, and Hanoi round trips over the September 2 holiday started at about VND3 million. If you're flying over a Vietnamese public holiday, book early and avoid the first and last days of the break for a wider choice of flights.

The road from the airport into the center follows the coast past Bai Dai, about 45 to 60 minutes by car. If your resort is on Bai Dai itself, the trip is much shorter, and it's worth asking whether the hotel runs a shuttle.

The cheapest ride is bus 18, VND50,000, which heads into the city via Tran Quang Khai, Nguyen Thien Thuat and Tran Hung Dao streets and ends at the 19/8 Stadium. Electric bus 16-2, also VND50,000, runs along Tran Phu to the Vinpearl cable car station about every 45 minutes. If your hotel is on Tran Phu, the 16-2 drops you closer.

A taxi to downtown costs about VND250,000-450,000 per car, depending on the company and whether it seats four or seven (September 2026). For three or four people, that works out close to the bus fare per person and gets you to the door. Grab and other ride-hailing apps also work and show the fare up front. If your flight lands after 9 pm, book a pickup in advance, since the last bus may have left.

Taking the train: tickets, berths and an early arrival #

Nha Trang station is at 17 Thai Nguyen street, right in town, and a short taxi or ride-hail gets you to the Tran Phu beachfront. Besides the SNT1 and SNT2, which run overnight between Saigon and Nha Trang every day, every Reunification Express train stops here.

You can choose an air-conditioned soft seat, a six-berth compartment or a four-berth compartment. As of September 30, 2026, the SNT1 from Nha Trang to Saigon cost about VND350,000-388,000 for a soft seat and VND504,000-927,000 for a berth, depending on the compartment and the bunk level. If you're a light sleeper, the four-berth compartment is quieter, though it costs more.

Since May 1, 2026, Vietnam Railways has used dynamic pricing, so the same berth can cost different amounts on different days. Buying at least 20 days ahead takes 5-10 percent off, students get 10 percent off, and round-trip tickets get 10 percent off the return leg. Tickets bought within two days of departure cost 5-7 percent more.

Tickets are sold on the official Vietnam Railways website and app and at station ticket offices. For summer and holiday travel, buy early so you can still pick the compartment and bunk you want.

If you're torn between a night train and a sleeper bus, the train lets you stand up, walk around, use a proper restroom and arrive in the middle of town. The bus is usually cheaper and has more departure times.

The SNT2 pulls in at 5:40 am, when hotels usually won't have your room ready. Leave your bags at reception and go find breakfast. Taking the bus: types, berths and where you get off #

If you're working out how to get to Nha Trang on a tight budget, the bus is usually the cheapest option. Sleeper buses are full-size coaches with two levels of berths, one person per berth, mostly running overnight. Limousine vans are smaller, with fewer and wider seats, and mostly run shorter routes such as Da Lat and Phan Thiet. Some sleepers have cabin-style berths with partitions.

You may see "double berths" or "couple cabins" advertised for two people. That is a sales term, not a vehicle type. Vietnamese standards allow one person and one seat belt per berth, a single belt cannot hold two people in a sudden stop, and several large operators have dropped the format.

If you get motion sick or you're taller than the berth, sleeping on a night bus can be hard; a limousine van for short runs, or the train for long ones, may suit you better. Quality varies a lot between operators, so read a few recent reviews before you book.

Nha Trang has two intercity bus terminals. The southern one moved to Vo Nguyen Giap road on April 1, 2024, and sits outside the center, toward Dien Khanh. The northern one is at 01 2/4 street in the Vinh Hoa area.

When you book, ask which terminal the bus uses and whether it offers a shuttle into town or drops passengers along the way. From the southern terminal the ride into town is longer, so book a car through an app to see the price first.

After a night on the bus, if you plan to head out on the bay, consider saving island hopping in Nha Trang for day two, once you've caught up on sleep.

Driving: toll tags, speed limits and parking #

Since April 2024 you can drive from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang entirely on expressway, in roughly half the time the old National Route 1 took. The speed limit on the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao section is 90 km/h (about 56 mph), and motorbikes are not allowed.

Coming from the north, the expressway from Quang Ngai to Nha Trang is now continuous. Since 2 pm on August 14, 2026, five sections along it have charged VND900 per km for standard cars, collected electronically only. If you're renting a car, confirm it has an electronic toll tag and enough credit on the account before you set off.

When you book your hotel, ask whether it has parking, especially if you're staying at a small hotel on a side street near the beach.
