Nha Trang Night Market and Nha Trang After Dark: One Evening From Beach to Street

By day, Nha Trang belongs to the sea and the boats heading out to the islands. After dark, the city pulls in around a few kilometers of beachfront. Streetlights come on, restaurants push their tables onto the sidewalk, and everyone drifts back to Tran Phu Street as if they had been waiting all day for this hour.

The Nha Trang night market sits right in the middle of that strip, so the easiest way to do it is as part of a whole evening: from the moment the sky changes color over the beach to the ride back to your hotel, with hours and a few practical notes for each stop.

The Nha Trang night market and one evening by the sea #

The whole evening fits into one walking loop. From Tran Phu Beach you head inland for dinner, then to the night market beside April 2 Square, through a few streets popular with foreign visitors, and finish with a coffee or a late bowl of noodles. If you are staying downtown, you probably will not need a ride until it is time to go home.

Closing time is not set in stone. Many stalls start packing up after 10 pm, especially on rainy or slow nights, so if you want to shop without rushing, arrive before 9 pm.

5 pm: the sky changes color over Tran Phu Beach #

A small surprise for first-timers: Tran Phu Beach faces east, so you will not see the sun sink into the sea here. It sets behind the mountains west of the city. What you get instead is the whole bay changing color, the water turning silver-gray and then pale violet while the islands offshore darken into silhouettes.

The best window is when the heat has just eased. A few late swimmers are still in the water, kids run along the edge of the waves, and walkers pace the seawall. Out on the bay, the lights on the boats start to come on one by one.

Once it is fully dark, the sand stays busy. Friends and families sit right on the beach and talk, and the light spilling from the hotels is enough to see the whole strip. If you want an evening swim, stick to the stretches with marker buoys and lifeguards, and check whether the sea is nice today for the latest wave and wind conditions.

For a view from above, find a rooftop bar or café along the beach or near Dam Market from about 5 pm. From up there the sea turns a soft copper-orange, the Cai River mouth and the Po Nagar towers show up to the north, and the mountains wrap around the city behind you.

6:30 pm: dinner, from seafood to a home-style fish meal #

The Nha Trang night market has a few food stalls, better for tasting a snack as you wander than for sitting down to a main meal. A long dinner, with a few of the dishes Nha Trang is known for and time to talk, suits the seafood and grill restaurants in town. Eat first and shop afterward; browsing is more relaxed on a full stomach.

The streets just behind the Tran Phu hotel row are packed with seafood restaurants, grill houses and rice places. For a more local feel, head north to Thap Ba Street. As the light fades, the eateries there glow, orders get shouted over the clatter of bowls, and the smell of grilled seafood spills onto the sidewalk.

Pick a place to match your group: a beachfront seafood house for a long dinner, a tabletop beef grill for a big group, or a home-style fish meal for a taste of everyday coastal cooking. Seafood is sold by weight, so confirm the price per kilo and watch it being weighed before it goes to the kitchen.

7:30 pm: inside the Nha Trang night market #

Walk from the beach toward April 2 Square and you will see the lights and awnings of the pedestrian street running alongside the convention building at 46 Tran Phu Street. This is what locals simply call the night market. It has been open since 2010 and sits near the corner of Tran Phu and Hung Vuong streets.

The market is small. One main aisle runs between two tight rows of stalls, and from one end you can almost see the other. At peak hour the crowd slows to a shuffle, and you will hear Korean, Russian, Chinese and Vietnamese all at once. Plenty of vendors have picked up a few phrases in their customers' languages.

Most stalls sell beachwear, sandals, bags, accessories, souvenirs and handicrafts. Look a little closer and you will find shell crafts, pearls and sand paintings. A few stalls also carry bird's nest, agarwood and dried seafood, the province's best-known specialties.

What to buy, and what to expect #

If you are picturing a Taiwan-style night market with rows of food carts, this one will feel different. The Nha Trang night market is closer to an evening shopping street: stroll, browse, pick up a few small things and move on.

The best buys are things you will use on the trip itself: a conical hat, a pair of sandals, a beach outfit, a woven bag. Small souvenirs such as key rings, sand paintings and shell crafts are easy to choose and pack flat in a suitcase.

For high-value items like bird's nest, agarwood or pearls, buy from a shop that gives you a receipt and clear information on origin. For dried squid, fish sauce and other dried goods, the new Dam Market has more choice during the day and makes it easier to compare prices.

Visitors were already pointing out the sameness years ago: many stalls carried the same items, a fair share of it not made in Vietnam, and few souvenirs felt truly local. Walk the whole aisle once before you buy, see whether the thing you like turns up at other stalls, then go back to the one you liked best.

Other night markets and the "new night market" question #

Beyond the pedestrian street by the square, the name Nha Trang night market has also been attached to a few other places. Over the past few years the province has trialed pop-up night markets in rounds: at Thieu Nhi and Yen Phi parks in the fall of 2023, then at the park north of Tran Phu Bridge from early 2024.

The Tran Phu Bridge market ran from 5:30 pm to midnight with cart-style stalls selling local specialties, crafts and food, and it took cards and QR payments. It was approved as a pilot through the end of 2025, so ask at your hotel whether it is running before you head over.

A few privately run night markets and food courts have also opened along Tran Phu, each with its own size and hours. In the south of the city, Sun Group plans to bring its VUI-Fest night market and a 24/7 food street to its Festival Island project; for now it is still a plan.

9 pm: April 2 Square and Tram Huong Tower #

Step out of the market and a few dozen meters away is April 2 Square, the widest open space on the seafront. In the middle stands Tram Huong Tower (Tháp Trầm Hương), the lotus-bud tower that has been a city landmark since it was finished in 2008.

The tower was renovated between September 2022 and early 2023, trading its old pale pink for white. At night it is lit up in the middle of a breezy square, and most people pause here for a photo before moving on.

The square also hosts the city's big events, from concerts to the start line of the VnExpress Marathon. On an ordinary night it is simply a place to catch the breeze, with kids running around and adults sitting on the steps facing the sea.

9:30 pm: the streets behind the beach, signs in Russian and Korean #

Behind the square is the area locals call "pho Tay," the foreigners' quarter: Hung Vuong, Nguyen Thien Thuat, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Biet Thu streets. It is dense with small hotels, restaurants, spas, bars and souvenir shops.

The shop signs are what catch most visitors off guard. On Hung Vuong, Nguyen Thien Thuat, To Hien Thanh, Vo Tru and Tran Quang Khai streets, plenty of storefronts are labeled in Russian, Korean or English, some with no Vietnamese at all. Russian visitors have come to Nha Trang for years, and Korean travelers have been among its largest groups of international visitors, so a walk here can feel like reading three alphabets at once.

These streets are busiest after 9 pm. Sidewalks are narrow and crowded with parked motorbikes, so walk slowly and watch the traffic. By day these streets are much quieter; save daytime things to do in Nha Trang, such as Nha Trang Cathedral or the Po Nagar towers, for the next morning.

10 pm: coffee, rooftops and late-night noodles #

By now, everyone in the group usually wants a different ending. The quiet ones find a café facing the sea on Tran Phu, order a Vietnamese coffee or a fresh coconut, and listen to the waves below.

If you would rather see the city from above, head to the rooftop bars on top of the high-rise hotels along the beach. From there, the lights of Tran Phu curve along the bay like a glowing thread, with Tran Phu Bridge in the distance and the lamps of fishing boats dotted across the dark water.

The tourist streets have bars and pubs playing music late into the night, with plenty of foreign customers. Drinks there usually cost more than at a sidewalk café, so check the menu before you order.

Hungry again? Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street has lots of eateries that open after 10 pm, and some serve until 1 or 2 am. A bowl of banh canh (thick noodle soup), beef pho or broken rice late at night is a very Nha Trang way to end the evening.

A different night: night swimming or squid fishing #

If you have already done the market, switch things up. North of downtown, the city's first night-swimming beach opened in May 2026, with swimming allowed from 6:30 to 10 pm. It has lifeguards, underwater lighting and glowing buoys, and night swimming there is free.

Another option is a night squid-fishing trip. Boats usually leave around 5:30-6 pm, reach the bay just after dark, and you fish under yellow lamps before eating the catch on board. Check the forecast first, and think twice if you get seasick easily.

On a day you have already spent island hopping in Nha Trang, take the evening easy and keep squid fishing for another night; a full day at sea followed by a night on the bay is tiring.

Getting back: rides, cash and staying safe #

The streets around the Nha Trang night market are lively and generally easy to walk in the evening. The hassles people run into are mostly about transport and money, and a few small habits keep the night smooth.

Cyclos, the three-wheeled pedicabs lined up along Tran Phu, look for passengers all evening. If you would like a slow loop past the seafront, agree on the price, route and duration before you get in.

Traveling in the rainy season, roughly September to December? Carry a light rain jacket, since a sudden shower can make stalls close early. If your dates are flexible, weigh the rainy months against the dry ones when picking the best time to visit Nha Trang. And if you want to walk to the beach and the market every night, stay in the central beach area.

Walking back from that last café, the city is not quite asleep. A few places are still lit, a late jogger passes along the seawall, and the waves keep rolling onto Tran Phu Beach. By 5 am the city starts again, right on the sand you just walked past.
