Nha Trang sunrise and sunset
Sunrise, sunset, golden hour and blue hour for today and the next 6 days, with a cloud estimate from the forecast
Calculating sun times…
📍 Where to watch
Sunrise
- Tran Phu Beach (Trần Phú): The shore faces east and the sun rises over the sea. Walk along the beach to an open stretch with few trees in the way.
- Hon Chong (Hòn Chồng): A rocky headland north of the center looking out over the bay. The site keeps its own opening hours, so check before planning a dawn visit.
Sunset
- A rooftop: The sun sets behind the mountains to the west, so go high enough to see both mountains and sea, for example Skylight on Tran Phu or Lume Sky Dining & Bar.
- Xom Bong (Xóm Bóng) and Tran Phu bridges: Both cross the Cai (Cái) River; look upstream toward the mountains. Stay on the footpath and do not stop in the traffic lane.
⚠️ Safety: On an early beach visit, swim only once lifeguards are on duty, inside the buoyed area, and follow the flags. At Hon Chong, stay on the paths and keep well back from spray on the rocks.

How to read the result #
The big number on each card is the moment the top edge of the sun meets a flat horizon, the standard used by sunrise tables everywhere. Nha Trang sits fairly close to the equator, so the sun climbs steeply: it gets light quickly and dark quickly.
Blue hour in Nha Trang lasts only about 8-9 minutes, and golden hour about 40-45 minutes depending on the season. In the morning, blue hour comes before golden hour; in the evening, the order is reversed. Morning golden hour starts roughly 13 minutes before the sunrise time on the card, so arriving right at sunrise means missing part of the best light.
The "Direction" line gives the sun's bearing from north as it rises or sets. In October it rises at about 98°, a touch south of due east. Knowing the bearing helps you pick a spot where the sun will come up behind the boat or rock you want in the frame.
Sunrise: the sun comes up over the sea #
Tran Phu Beach faces east, so all it takes is an early alarm and a walk across the road to watch the sun rise in front of you. There are plenty of islands in the bay, so depending on the season and where you stand, the sun may come up straight from the water or from behind a line of islands.
We suggest getting to the beach 20-25 minutes before sunrise, at the start of blue hour, when the sky shifts from deep blue to violet, then orange right where the sun is about to appear. Plenty of locals are out early to exercise and swim, so the beach is busier than you might expect. Afterward, a coffee at one of the beachfront cafes on Tran Phu is an easy way to start the day.
Sunset: the sun drops behind the mountains #
Evenings work the other way round. Mountains rise west of the city, so on Tran Phu Beach you have your back to the sunset, and the sun usually disappears behind the ridges before the sunset time in the tool. To see both the sun and the colors, get up high or find an open view to the west.

Both rooftops suggested above open in the late afternoon, and in November the sun sets at its earliest, around 5:15 p.m., so check each rooftop's opening hours and tickets to avoid missing golden hour. From Xom Bong Bridge, low light falls across the Cai River and the fishing boats moored along the banks. If you want to visit the nearby Po Nagar Cham Towers (Tháp Bà Po Nagar) first, go early, as the site closes at 5:30 p.m.
And if you are already on the beach in the evening, do not rush off. On some days, after the sun has set, the sky over the sea turns pink and violet and the water goes soft and pale, good light for photos of people and palms.
How the times change through the year #
The table shows sunrise and sunset on the 15th of each month, from the same algorithm as the tool. Other years differ very little, usually by no more than a minute.
| 15th of | Sunrise | Sunset |
|---|---|---|
| January | 6:08 a.m. | 5:37 p.m. |
| February | 6:05 a.m. | 5:50 p.m. |
| March | 5:51 a.m. | 5:54 p.m. |
| April | 5:31 a.m. | 5:55 p.m. |
| May | 5:19 a.m. | 6:00 p.m. |
| June | 5:18 a.m. | 6:09 p.m. |
| July | 5:26 a.m. | 6:13 p.m. |
| August | 5:32 a.m. | 6:04 p.m. |
| September | 5:33 a.m. | 5:44 p.m. |
| October | 5:33 a.m. | 5:25 p.m. |
| November | 5:41 a.m. | 5:15 p.m. |
| December | 5:56 a.m. | 5:21 p.m. |
The longest day falls around June 21, at about 12 hours 51 minutes, and the shortest around December 22, at about 11 hours 25 minutes, less than an hour and a half apart. The earliest sunrise comes in late May (around 5:17 a.m.) and the latest sunset in early July (around 6:13 p.m.), not on the longest day. The sunrise bearing shifts with the seasons too: about 66° (toward the northeast) around June and about 114° (toward the southeast) around December. If you want the sun to rise behind a particular island, check this number first.
Photo tips #
On a phone, tap the bright part of the sky to lock exposure, then drag it a little darker; the orange gets richer and the sea does not blow out to white. A boat, a person on the sand or the rocks at Hon Chong as a dark silhouette in the foreground gives the shot a focal point. Do not look directly at the sun with the naked eye or through an optical viewfinder without suitable solar protection.
Evening blue hour is the time for the Tran Phu streetlights just switching on, while the sky is still light enough to show the outline of the mountains. It is short, so frame your shot as golden hour winds down.
How far to trust the cloud forecast #
Low cloud matters most because it blocks the sun right at the horizon. Mid-level and high cloud are a different story: a thin, broken layer often catches the low light and turns orange or pink. Chance of rain is the model's probability of rain in that hour, not the amount.
Coastal cloud builds and clears quickly, especially early in the morning, so a "Poor" morning can still give you a glimpse of sun, and the other way round. Tomorrow's forecast is usually closer to reality than one five or six days out. If the sunset outlook says "Poor" several days running, mornings may be the better bet. For the waves and wind ahead of an early swim, check the local wave and wind forecast.
FAQ #
What time is sunrise in Nha Trang today?
The tool at the top of the page shows sunrise and sunset for today and the next 6 days in Vietnam time. In mid-October, the sun rises around 5:33 a.m. and sets around 5:25 p.m.
When should I get to Tran Phu Beach for sunrise?
About 20-25 minutes before sunrise, when blue hour begins. That is when the sky changes color the most; the sun itself clears the sea in just a few minutes.
Why is the time in the tool a minute off from my weather app?
Each service rounds seconds and picks coordinates slightly differently; the tool rounds to the nearest minute for central Nha Trang. In a seven-day comparison for October 14-20, 2026, the displayed times differed from Open-Meteo's by at most one minute.
Can you watch the sun set over the sea from the beach in Nha Trang?
No. The Nha Trang shoreline faces east and the sun sets behind the mountains to the west. For an evening view of the sun, go up to a rooftop or onto a bridge over the Cai River, looking toward the mountains.
Does "Favorable" guarantee I will see the sun tomorrow morning?
No. The label is only an estimate from the model's forecast, and coastal cloud changes quickly. Reload the page before you head out for the latest forecast.
