In Vietnam, going for coffee means sitting down, often for an hour or more. Nha Trang has the whole range, from plastic stools on the pavement to a sky deck 43 floors above Tran Phu (Trần Phú), the beachfront road. The beach faces east, so the sand is at its best in the morning, while sunset is a job for the rooftops.

Beachfront on Tran Phu: best in the morning #
Several places in the Tran Phu beach park open straight onto the sand and serve coffee next to cocktails, beer and juices. If you are staying on central Tran Phu, they are just across the road.

Sailing Club Nha Trang
72-74 Tran Phu · open 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily (venue website, checked October 2026)
A beach bar and restaurant right on the sand, with sun loungers, colorful bean bags and drinks and snacks all day. After dark the music goes up and so does the crowd.
Come when it opens: from about 7 to 9 a.m. the light is soft and the beach still quiet.
Louisiane Brewhouse
Lot 29, Tran Phu beach park · Google Maps lists 7 a.m. to midnight daily (checked October 2026)
A restaurant with its own craft brewery and an outdoor pool. Its website says the pool is free to use and open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with staff serving food and drinks at your sun lounger; live bands play on Friday and Saturday nights from 8:30 p.m. Ask whether there is a minimum spend before you settle in.
It suits a slow morning: a swim, a coffee, a book. Beer lovers can come back at night.
Sunset: head up, and look toward the mountains #
From higher up you see both sides: the ring of hills, the Cai River (sông Cái) and the lights coming on along Tran Phu. Both places below open at 5 p.m., an easy stop before dinner or the night market.
Skylight
43rd floor, Premier Havana Hotel, 38 Tran Phu · Skydeck 5-11:30 p.m., beach club 5 p.m.-12:45 a.m. (checked October 2026)
Skylight does not serve coffee. Come for rooftop views and an evening drink; the attractions include a sky deck, a glass-floored Skywalk and a pool deck where swimming is not allowed. Tickets are sold only at the desk on arrival and cover these areas plus one welcome drink. Children under 130 cm get in free.
Guests under 18 cannot enter the beach club after 9 p.m., and bikinis and sleepwear are not allowed. There is no parking on site; the nearest is a paid lot opposite the InterContinental. With young children, go up at 5 p.m. and leave before the music takes over.
Lume Sky Dining & Bar
29 Phan Chu Trinh · Google Maps lists 5-10 p.m., to 1 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday (checked October 2026)
A rooftop restaurant and bar with outdoor seating and a pool. The view is the point: besides the sea, you can pick out the Cai River, the Po Nagar towers (Tháp Bà Ponagar), the roofs around Dam Market (chợ Đầm) and the hills behind. The general manager told Thanh Nien that sunset is the time many guests choose.
Come for a proper dinner, and book ahead for a table by the railing.
Coffee the way locals start the day #
Nha Trang drinks its coffee early, and a lot of it is served from a few plastic stools in front of someone's house.
Cafe Chu La
19 Nguyen Trung Truc (Nguyễn Trung Trực) · Google Maps lists 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (checked October 2026)
A street-side cafe of exactly that kind, and a morning meeting point for people on their way to work.
Around To Hien Thanh (Tô Hiến Thành) and Hong Bang (Hồng Bàng), jokingly called the "Korean quarter" (khu phố Hàn), AN Cafe is calm and CCCP Coffee has pavement tables for watching the street. Pair one with a bowl of fish noodle soup for breakfast.
If strong coffee is not for you, try Sua Tuoi Ba Bay (Sữa Tươi Bà Bảy) at 7 Pham Hong Thai (Phạm Hồng Thái), open from early morning until 8 p.m. The short menu covers fresh milk with coffee, fresh milk with mandarin, soy milk and pennywort juice, from about VND10,000 in 2024.
Retro cafes in the old streets #
Over the past decade, retro cafes have spread across the city. These cafes recreate older interiors with tiled roofs, vintage furniture and household objects.
Gac 99's Cafe & Tea
22 Hang Ca (Hàng Cá) · check Google Maps for hours
Old roof tiles, dark colors and a sign reading "Nơi đây có bán bình yên" (peace and quiet sold here) that plenty of visitors pose beside. It sits in the streets around Dam Market, handy after a round of souvenir shopping.
Tiem Ca Phe Cu Xa Vinh Hai
85 Bac Son (Bắc Sơn), Bac Nha Trang Ward (phường Bắc Nha Trang) · Google Maps lists 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. (checked October 2026)
One corner holds a boxy TV, a cassette radio and an oil lamp on a flowery tablecloth, all from the 1980s and 1990s and collected by the owner.
It is on the north side of town, the same side as the Po Nagar Cham Towers (open 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., VND30,000): see the towers in the cool morning, then sit out the midday heat here.
Two more in the same spirit: Dam Cafe (Đầm cà phê) at 17 Xuong Huan, in a house almost 100 years old, and Cong Caphe (Cộng Cà Phê) at 23 Nguyen Chanh.
For working, lingering or bringing the kids #
If you need to open a laptop, pick a cafe in town, away from loud music and sea wind, and ask about wifi and sockets before choosing a table.
Chon Cafe
54 Tran Nhat Duat (Trần Nhật Duật)
A vintage-style cafe young locals pick for quiet work. For a quieter visit, try a weekday morning and check whether music is playing before settling in.
Yen Garden Bistro
Alley 51, Tue Tinh (Tuệ Tĩnh) · Google Maps lists 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. (checked October 2026)
A garden cafe down an alley, with a koi pond, trees, birds, water puppets and ceramics; families gather here on weekends. Drinks cost VND30,000-70,000 in September 2023, so check the current menu.
With small children, choose a table away from the pond edge and keep an eye on them.
The social-media favorites: trains and a few more #
Railway cafe
66a Nguyen Trai (Nguyễn Trãi) · Google Maps lists 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (checked October 2026)
A three-story house covered in tropical plants, looking onto the railway line, with a low brick wall that keeps guests inside the cafe. Press reports from 2024 said it took no reservations and had no air conditioning.
Ask the staff for an approximate passing time; trains may run earlier or later. Stay inside the cafe's guest area when watching or taking photos, and keep out of the railway corridor.
Two more places to look up are DAN Coffee & Dessert at 14 Ngo Gia Tu (Ngô Gia Tự) and Mien Coffee (Miên Coffee) at 8B Dien Bien Phu (Điện Biên Phủ). Check their current hours and menus before visiting.
Capybara cafes: what to know before you go #
At least two cafes in town keep capybaras, the large South American rodents, alongside other animals.
Capybara
34 Au Co (Âu Cơ) · Google Maps lists 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily (checked October 2026)
Ask at the counter how entry works and what it includes, such as a drink or animal food; prices visitors post online do not match.
Moonybunny
74A Van Don (Vân Đồn) · Google Maps lists 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily (checked October 2026)
Moonybunny's Google Maps listing advertises capybaras, alpacas, cats and rabbits. Check the current entry arrangements and animal-contact areas with the cafe before visiting.
Choose a place with a separate rest area for the animals; if an animal is avoiding people or the contact area is crowded, watch from a distance.
How to order Vietnamese coffee #
Vietnamese coffee drips through a phin, a small metal filter on top of the glass. It comes out strong and dark, so the classic way to drink it is with condensed milk and ice.
Order ca phe sua da (cà phê sữa đá) for iced coffee with condensed milk, or den da (đen đá) for black iced coffee. For hot versions, ask for ca phe sua nong (cà phê sữa nóng) or den nong (đen nóng). Bac xiu (bạc xỉu) is mostly milk with a little coffee, a gentle start, and ca phe muoi (cà phê muối) is salt coffee from Hue (Huế).
For black coffee, ask for it duong (ít đường) for less sugar. For coffee with condensed milk, ask for it sua (ít sữa) for less condensed milk.
Prices, payment and timing #
Prices vary by cafe and drink. The figures in this guide, from about VND10,000 at Ba Bay and VND30,000-70,000 at Yen Garden, date from 2024 and 2023; check the current menu before you budget. Street-side coffee usually costs less, and beachfront and rooftop venues more, since you are paying for the seat. At bars, check whether the menu adds a service charge.
Keep small dong notes for street cafes and motorbike parking. To avoid crowds, reach a rooftop as it opens and visit the photo-friendly cafes on a weekday. For sights nearby, see what to do downtown.
Where to sit on a rainy day #
Roughly September to December is Nha Trang's rainy season. In light rain, an indoor cafe such as Gac 99's, Cong Caphe or Chon can work if the route is safe; for a wet day, see these rainy-day ideas. Postpone the visit if heavy rain or flooding is forecast, and follow local advice.
