Da Nang (Đà Nẵng) Weather in November: Rain, Floods and Whether to Go

November is still one of Da Nang's peak flood months and the sea is often too rough to swim, but it stays warm and the rain tends to come in spells. A trip built around food, museums and Hoi An (Hội An) can work with flexible bookings and a spare day; for a beach holiday, April to August is the better window.

An Bang Beach (bãi biển An Bàng) in Hoi An, now part of Da Nang City, on the afternoon of November 23, 2024: overcast skies and whitecaps along the shore.

On a late-November afternoon in 2024, An Bang Beach was almost empty. Low gray cloud hung over the water, whitecaps ran along the shore and a line of washed-up debris marked the sand. The same strip of coast runs north to My Khe (Mỹ Khê) Beach in Da Nang, which gets days like this too. Between wet spells, some days bring only light drizzle, good enough for a coffee by the Han River (sông Hàn).

Is November a good time to visit Da Nang? #

It can be, if your dates have some give. It is not cold: daytime highs average around 27°C (81°F). The trade-offs are rain that can last several days, a sea that is often too rough for swimming, Ba Na Hills (Bà Nà) or the Son Tra (Sơn Trà) Peninsula closing in bad weather, and floodwater in Hoi An's old town.

We would not pick November for a beach holiday, for a short trip built around one fixed date, such as an outdoor wedding or a photo shoot on the Golden Bridge (Cầu Vàng), or for a group with elderly relatives or small children who would struggle with a sudden change of hotel. If you are weighing Nha Trang instead, bear in mind that November is Nha Trang's wettest month too.

Da Nang weather in November: the numbers #

The rain rarely spreads out evenly. In the ten Novembers of model data, there were eight runs of three or more heavy-rain days in a row, the longest lasting five days. It falls fairly evenly across morning, afternoon, evening and night, so an early start does not dodge much of it. Years differ a lot as well, from about 145 mm (2022) to about 576 mm (2020).

MonthAverage rainfall (Da Nang station)Days with offshore waves under 1 m
October628 mm (24.7 in)About 4 in 10
November448 mm (17.6 in)About 3 in 10
December218 mm (8.6 in)About 1 in 10
June (for comparison)83 mm (3.3 in)Almost every day

Rainfall in the table comes from Vietnam's national climate-data standard for construction (QCVN 02:2022/BXD). Rain-day counts and the wave column are calculated from Open-Meteo model data (rain for 2015-2024; offshore waves, daily maximum, October 2022 to December 2025). The model gives November about 346 mm, less than the station, so we use it only to compare rain patterns across days and years.

Da Nang floods in November: how to read the warnings #

In late October and November 2025, central Vietnam was hit by three major rain events in a row, and the Thu Bon (Thu Bồn) River at Cau Lau (Câu Lâu) rose above its record 1964 flood level (VnExpress). This season has already had a heavy spell: on October 7-8, 2026, several roads in the south of the city were under nearly half a meter of water.

Since July 2025, Da Nang City has also covered the former Quang Nam (Quảng Nam) province, reaching far into the mountains around Tra My (Trà My), so floods there are now often reported under the Da Nang name. Check which commune, ward or river a warning names: a landslide in a mountain commune may not touch the city center along the Han River, while heavy rain upstream on the Thu Bon can flood Hoi An.

The October 21, 2026 monthly outlook from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting leans toward 20-40% less rain than the long-term average for October 21 to November 20 in the region that includes Da Nang, though it still expects moderate to heavy rain to concentrate in central Vietnam. A monthly outlook cannot tell you about your week; for daily decisions, use the center's one- to three-day forecasts (it has an English section) and city announcements.

The beach, Ba Na Hills and Son Tra in bad weather #

In November the wind blows from the north or northeast on most days, and offshore waves run much higher than in summer, as the table shows. Swim at My Khe only inside the buoyed area, while lifeguards are on duty and the flags allow it. On big-wave days, stay off rocks and headlands too, even for photos, as the authority that manages the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang's tourist beaches advises.

Sun World Ba Na Hills sits on a mountain about 25 km from the city center, rising to roughly 1,487 m (about 4,900 ft), and you go up by cable car. The ticket terms say the park may close or suspend operations because of natural disasters or weather, and that refunds, extensions or exchanges then follow its policy at the time; tickets bought through other sellers are handled by that seller. When cloud covers the top, the Golden Bridge may be little more than a blur, so check the forecast the evening before and give Ba Na the driest day of your trip.

The Son Tra Peninsula, home to Linh Ung (Linh Ứng) Pagoda, has also closed to visitors in heavy rain, most recently from October 8 to 13, 2026. Its mountain roads have sharp bends and get slippery in the wet. Only ride to Son Tra with a license valid in Vietnam and experience on steep roads; choose a dry day and check that the route is open.

Should you add Hoi An to a November trip? #

Yes, if you save it for the best forecast day of your trip. Hoi An's old town, just over 30 km from central Da Nang, sits low beside the Hoai River (sông Hoài), a branch of the Thu Bon. In the 2025 flood season it flooded three times; after the first, tourism there came to a virtual halt for four to five days. At this time of year, the head of the city government's office said on October 23, 2026, the evening high tide can bring the river up to the Bach Dang (Bạch Đằng) Street embankment, and heavy rain upstream is enough to flood several streets (CafeF).

We suggest heading down in the afternoon and, if you can, staying the night, so you are not traveling back in the dark and the rain; before you book, ask how the property handles rising water. This month's Old Town Night falls on Sunday, November 22, 2026, the 14th day of the lunar month; skip it if there is a flood warning that day.

A backup plan: what to book and what to leave open #

Booking two months ahead tells you nothing about whether your week will be wet or dry; what you can control is how easily each booking changes.

  • Hotels: choose a rate you can cancel close to arrival, and check the deadline and the date you will be charged. Staying near the center on either bank of the Han River puts museums, a market and restaurants a short walk or ride away on a wet day.
  • Flights and trains: compare date-change rules before you buy, and do not book a departure for the morning after your Hoi An night or your Ba Na day.
  • Tours and tickets: book Ba Na Hills, Hoi An trips and Cu Lao Cham (Cù Lao Chàm) island tours close to the date, ask what you get back if the site closes or boats cannot sail, and get the answer in writing.
  • A spare day: on a four- or five-day trip, keep one free day in the middle for anything that needs dry weather; a long storm or flood can still force a bigger change of plan.

What to do in Da Nang on a rainy day #

The Museum of Cham Sculpture (Bảo tàng Điêu khắc Chăm), at No. 2, 2 Thang 9 Street (đường 2 Tháng 9), near the western end of the Dragon Bridge (cầu Rồng), is the best rainy-day stop in town: a collection of Champa sculpture in a building that first opened to the public in 1919, now open daily from 7:30am to 5pm, with tickets at VND60,000 (Da Nang tourism portal, April 2026).

Han Market (chợ Hàn), at 119 Tran Phu (Trần Phú) Street, is all under one roof and handy for fish sauce, dried goods or an ao dai (áo dài) made to measure while you wait. For lunch, a bowl of mi Quang (mì Quảng) noodles or bun cha ca (bún chả cá), a fish cake noodle soup, at a place near your hotel will warm you up. When the rain eases, take a walk along the Han River.

When heavy rain or flood warnings are issued #

A flood warning is not the same as a rainy day. Stop sightseeing, stay somewhere safe and follow instructions from the authorities and your hotel. Avoid the Hai Van (Hải Vân) Pass and the roads up Son Tra and Ba Na when heavy rain or landslide warnings are out. If your trip continues to Hue (Huế) or farther south, check the warnings for every leg: each region has its own flood and storm season.

Da Nang in November: quick answers #

Is it cold in Da Nang in November? What should I pack?

No. Expect around 27°C (81°F) by day and 22°C (72°F) at night. Summer clothes are fine; add a light jacket for windy evenings and Ba Na Hills, a packable rain jacket, sandals with grip and a waterproof pouch for your phone.

Is early or late November better for Da Nang?

There is little to choose between them. In model data for 2015-2024, the first half of the month averaged about 188 mm of rain and the second half about 159 mm, with a similar number of heavy-rain days. A forecast a few days out is a better guide than the half of the month.

Do typhoons hit Da Nang in November?

They can. According to Vietnam's national forecasting center, the long-term average for October 21 to November 20 is about 1.6 storms or tropical depressions in the East Sea (South China Sea), with 0.6 making landfall in Vietnam; its October 21, 2026 outlook expects fewer than that this year.
