Cam Ranh Airport to Nha Trang: Buses, Taxis, Grab and Late Arrivals

Cam Ranh Airport (CXR) is about 35 km south of central Nha Trang, a 45- to 60-minute drive. If you land before about 7 pm with light bags, the airport bus may work well. Confirm the fare and next departure to your area before relying on it. Later in the evening, or in a group, take a car from the official taxi lane or book one in an app. After midnight, or if you are staying at a Bai Dai (Bãi Dài) resort, a prearranged hotel pickup is the simplest choice.

Walk out of arrivals at Cam Ranh and the taxi lane and the drivers holding name boards are right in front of you. It helps to decide while you wait at the carousel: the bus stop, the taxi queue, the ride-hailing pick-up point or your hotel's driver.

Times cover the drive only, not immigration, baggage claim or waiting. Prices are one way, and taxi fares are whole-car prices into the center, as posted on the T2 website. The same page lists prebooked private cars at VND350,000-500,000 without saying whether that is per car or per person, so ask when you book.

T1 or T2, and sorting out cash and data #

International flights arrive at Terminal 2 (T2). Flights from Hanoi (Hà Nội), Ho Chi Minh City (Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) or Da Nang (Đà Nẵng) use the domestic Terminal 1 (T1) next door. Bus 16-2 leaves from T1, so if you land at T2 and want to take it, ask staff for the way across.

Change or withdraw just enough at T2 for the ride and a first meal; rates are easier to compare at a bank in town. Free trolleys wait by the baggage belts. If you need mobile data to book a ride, arrange an eSIM before arrival or check the SIM counters at T2.

Bus 18 and electric bus 16-2 #

Bus 18, run by the Dat Moi (Đất Mới) company, follows the coast road, Nguyen Tat Thanh (Nguyễn Tất Thành), into town via Tran Quang Khai, Nguyen Thien Thuat (Nguyễn Thiện Thuật) and Tran Hung Dao (Trần Hưng Đạo) streets, ending at the 19/8 Stadium (Sân vận động 19/8). It is the handy one if you are staying in the backpacker streets around Tran Quang Khai and Hung Vuong (Hùng Vương). The T2 website lists the fare at VND50,000 per person and the ride at 50-60 minutes, while a February 2025 Green SM article gives VND65,000 for the full route. Carry small notes, confirm the fare as you board, and ask the arrivals information desk where the bus stops.

According to the Khanh Hoa digital tourism portal, VinBus route 16-2 picks up at pillars 8-9 outside the domestic terminal, T1. It follows Nguyen Tat Thanh into town via Nguyen Duc Canh (Nguyễn Đức Cảnh) and Hoang Dieu (Hoàng Diệu) to Tran Phu and on to Vinpearl. It suits you if you are staying at the southern end of Tran Phu or heading to VinWonders; Vinpearl and VinWonders customers can ride two trips free under VinBus's conditions. Since October 20, 2026, routes and live bus positions are in the VinBus section of the Green SM app.

Published hours vary by source. For the 16-2, VinBus's December 2024 notice gives 7 am-9:15 pm from the airport. The Khanh Hoa portal (checked October 2026) shows an operating window of 5:50 am-11 pm, without splitting it by direction. For bus 18, Green SM (February 2025) lists a first bus at 4:30 am and a last at 8:55 pm, again with no direction given. Aim to reach the stop before 8 pm and keep a taxi or app ride as a backup. This is a planning buffer, not a confirmed last departure. Allow about an hour for immigration and bags after an international flight, or half an hour after a domestic one, plus time to find the stop or walk across to T1 for the 16-2. If you land after about 7 pm, plan on a taxi or an app ride.

Taxis at T2: agree the price before your bags go in #

The T2 website posts whole-car, one-way fares into central Nha Trang: Quoc Te (Quốc Tế) taxi VND300,000 for a 4-seater and VND360,000 for a 7-seater, and Green SM VND350,000, or VND400,000 for its Premium car (checked October 27, 2026). It also notes that fares may vary by time of day, so confirm the total to your exact hotel before the driver loads your bags. Split four ways, that is about VND75,000-100,000 each, VND25,000-50,000 more than the bus, with a drop-off at the door.

Only get into a car from the taxi lane, one whose plate matches your app, or the hotel car you arranged. If someone in the hall offers a ride in a car with no company logo or meter, a polite "no, thank you" is enough. If you pay cash, count each note in front of the driver. In January 2026, VnExpress International reported on a taxi ride in town, from central Nha Trang to Dam Market (Chợ Đầm): the driver swapped a passenger's VND200,000 note for a VND10,000 one and asked for more, and later admitted it to police. Keep the receipt and note the plate; if you are overcharged, call the tourist hotline in the quick facts above.

Grab and Green SM: walk to the pillar, then book #

According to Grab, since February 3, 2026 GrabCar has picked up at T1 from pillars 5-7 in front of arrivals: turn right out of the doors and walk about 100 m. At T2, Grab's airport page (archived June 2026) points arrivals to pillar 6. With Green SM, go to the pick-up point the app shows when you book. Drivers may stop for no more than 3 minutes, so collect your bags and get to the pillar before you book. On top of the app fare, Grab says you pay the driver the airport entry fee from the car park tariff: VND9,000 for the first 30 minutes for cars with up to 9 seats.

Install the apps, check that the verification code reaches your phone and link a payment method before you fly, so you can book the moment you walk out. Four people with big suitcases should book a 7-seater.

Bai Dai resorts and late arrivals #

The resorts along Bai Dai are only 5-20 minutes from the airport, according to VnExpress (June 2026), so there is no point riding into town and back. Ask your resort whether it offers a pickup, and whether the price is per car or per person. Taxis from the airport lane also make this short run, but the fares posted at T2 are for the center, so agree the price before you get in. VnExpress also notes that ride-hailing cars are scarce around Cam Ranh and slow to book, so for the trip back to the airport, ask reception to book a car the day before. If you are traveling light, bus 16-2 also passes several resorts on Nguyen Tat Thanh.

For arrivals after midnight, or with small children or older relatives, we suggest a hotel pickup. When you book, ask for the driver's name, the plate number and where they will wait, and check them in arrivals. If you are booking a car through an unfamiliar website or social media account, run a few checks before paying a deposit.

Back to the airport: when to leave town #

Toward the airport, bus 18 picks up at the 19/8 Stadium, 10 Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Thien Thuat Street and 1 Tran Quang Khai. The 16-2 picks up along Tran Phu; VinBus's December 2024 notice put its departures from Vinpearl at 8:30 am-11 pm. The day before you fly, check route 16-2 in Green SM. For route 18, ask reception or the airport information desk to confirm the pickup time.

Check the operating airline's check-in deadline for your flight. When planning your airport transfer, keep the boarding time and scheduled departure time separate. With 45-60 minutes on the road, we suggest leaving central Nha Trang about three and a half hours before an international flight and two and a half hours before a domestic one; from Bai Dai you can leave about half an hour later. Allow extra time on weekend afternoons, around holidays and in heavy rain; a buffer makes the trip less rushed but cannot guarantee you will make it if something goes wrong.

FAQ: Cam Ranh Airport to Nha Trang #

Can I take a suitcase on the Cam Ranh airport bus?

Vietnam's Circular 36/2024 (in force since January 1, 2025) lets passengers on bus routes that start or end at an airport carry up to 20 kg of luggage, in a size that fits the bus. One medium suitcase is usually fine; ask the driver where to put it before you board. With two or three large cases, a taxi or 7-seater is far less hassle.

I left something on the plane, at the airport or in a taxi. What should I do?

For items left on the plane, or delayed or damaged bags, go to the Lost and Found counter in the baggage claim area or contact your airline's representative, as the T2 website advises. For a taxi, call the company with the plate number and the time you got out; for an app booking, report it through that trip in the app.

I land at T2 and connect to a domestic flight. How does that work?

Usually you clear immigration and collect your bags at T2, walk over to T1 next door and check in again. Ask your airline when booking whether bags can be checked through, and leave time for both queues.
